MSP Student Wins Writing Award

The National Association for Music Education announced the ten top winners in the 2010 "Music! Just Imagine…" Essay Contest. The essay contest challenged K-6 music students to write about the ways they were inspired by music starting with the phrase "I imagine…"

Samantha Hill, a sixth grade student and member of Mrs. Nicole Parton's band class, was selected as one of the top ten winners in the nation.

The essays were judged by a panel of MENC members. Of the more than 200 entries, ten were chosen as the top winners. A selection of the winners’ essays will be featured in the 2010 World’s Largest Concert®, a sing-along event sponsored by MENC. The 2010 World’s Largest Concert will take place on Thursday, March 11, in schools and communities throughout the nation and around the world.

Congratulations Samantha and Mrs. Parton!

Important Announcement for Parents of Sixth Graders

Beginning with the 2010-2011 school year, children will be required to get an additional shot for tetanus, diptheria, and pertussis. One shot will cover all three and is called T-Dap. Check with your physician or the SC Health Department for an appointment soon. This shot must be received before your child enters the seventh grade in August of 2010. Please contact the Health Department at 596-2227 or your personal physician for an appointment.

From the Principal

As we continue to work toward success with our motto for the 2009-2010 school year, READ, RESEARCH, REWARD - The New 3 R's, we are proud to share that our students have currently read 752 books.  Our seventh and eighth grade students are working on I-search papers, the beginning of an extensive research period.  By allowing them to select a topic of personal interest, teachers are able to have students focus on learning the "mechanics" of writing a strong research paper.

Keep reading and writing!!!
